AUGMENTED REALITY
Augmented Reality, also known as AR, is an
increasingly fashionable term and refers to a state-of-the-art technology that
is sometimes mistakenly identified with Virtual Reality. In this article, we
will explain what it is, what it is used for and what are its applications in
our lives.
What is augmented reality?
Augmented Reality is an advanced technology that
provides virtual images in the middle of a real environment, allowing a unique
user experience.
Where Augmented Reality is used?
AR is used in numerous sectors and is in a permanent process of expansion. The industrial sector, education, architecture, services, health ... are some of the sectors in which more projection is taking.
Some of the innumerable applications that are already developed and implemented in our lives are to be able to make instant translations of a text, try on clothes, check
how the project of a new house on the ground is integrated, be able to operate
one patient at a time seeing the affected organ?
Michael Valdsgaard, a developer of the IKEA company, points
out that the application of Virtual Reality will be a safe bet since it will
allow placing a virtual piece of furniture on a hole in your house with an
accuracy of 98%.
However, this technology has not been where it has become more popular, if not in video games, with Pokémon Go being its biggest reference in achieving worldwide success in 2016, achieving the “not negligible” figure of 50 million daily users.
At the end of 2017, Washington Artechouse was inaugurated, a museum-bar based on creating scenes with Augmented Reality that in the first six months of life reached an astounding 100,000 visitors and that has already opened new venues in cities like New York and Miami. We invite you to watch a video of the Museum so that you realize what possibilities the AR offers us.
What investment is being made in the AR?
The investments that are being made in this technology are stratospheric. Estimates suggest that in 2020, global investment in Augmented Reality is around 120,000 million dollars. What is the future of Augmented Reality?
It could be pointed out that Augmented Reality is the future in itself since it encompasses a greater area of work and functionality than does Virtual Reality.
One of the main features of the AR is that it also allows
you to interact with a real environment at the same time.
Companies like Apple are confident that it will be the next the industrial revolution, said Tim Cook, it's an executive director who, at first, will be an interesting technology that will later transform the world.
In this bid to see who is the first to hatch the Augmented Reality among the general public, Google maintains a titanic pulse with Apple. In mid-2017 Google launched Alphabet Inc, which is an Android tool designed to make applications with Augmented Reality.
ARcore and ARkit are the systems that
have developed these two technological colossi. Microsoft is another
technological giant that is betting strongly to be present in the new
technological advances of the AR.
History of AR
To find the origin of this term we have to go back to the
beginning of the 90s of the last century. A scientist named Thomas P. Caudell
tried to give a solution to facilitate the operators with the steps that they
had to follow to be able to assemble the pieces of the mythical Boeing 747.
Caudell developed a template that guided them during the assembly process, and
although apparently, It was not very successful, it was the starting point of
the term Augmented Reality.
